We haven't done this for a while... put your iPod on shuffle (other mp3 players are available) and list the first 10 tracks, no prizes for appearing "cool". Here's mine:

The Plough - The Divine Comedy
Porpoise Song - The Monkees
It takes One To Know Me - Carlene Carter
Superstition - Stevie Wonder
Everybody Salsa - Modern Romance
Plastic Palace People - Scott Walker
All Our Past Times - Rick Danko
What Am I Doing Hangin' Round? - The Monkees
I Get Around - The Beach Boys
Have I The Right? - The Honeycombs

My 10 random songs, this stressed out day.

Scott Matthew - Community
Razorlight - Up All Night
Blondie - Heart of Glass
Thermal and a Quarter - Bend the World
Grinderman - (I Don't Need You to) Set Me Free
Depeche Mode - People are People
The Beta Band - Squares
Beck - E-Pro
Jesus and Mary Chain - I Love Rock 'N' Roll

Surely one Monkees song...shame on them.  TWO Monkees songs......  jx
I wouldn't have 'fessed up to Razorlight, but dagnammit I like their first album.

Modern Romance was my embarrassing one! The Monkees are great - and Michael Nesmith's solo stuff from the early 70s is as good if not better than the likes of Gram Parsons (imo)

Random playlists...and random fact.  Billy Mackenzie's Dad tried to teach me how to dive into a swimming pool on holiday n Mallorca when I was about 13.  He was then, and may possibly be, the most suave man on the planet.  He could summon a taxi effortlessly, with one subtle wave.  Still impresses me.

China Girl - Bowie
Strike - Habit
Circle Square - Wonder Stuff
It's Like That - Us3
Angels Heap - Finn Brothers
The Last Balloon (Home Demo) - XTC
All Over You - Level 42
Ask the Dust - Dada
Love ain't for Keeping - The Who
Man of a Thousand Faces - Marillion.

My late 80's dalliance with British funk is well represented with Habit and the '42 in there. Slap that bass!

The late Billy McKenzie was a truly wonderful singer with such a unique voice. I dont think I have ever heard anything close to it since.

I would second that!

Aside from the material he did with Alan Rankine in the Associates, it's worth tracking down the guest appearances he made on albums by Yello and apollofortyfour, amongst others, as well as the album he did with Steve Aungle just before he tragically killed himself.

The wonders of Last.fm threw their song Bend the World into my radio mix, and I instantly loved it.    It's one of my most recent <3 'd choices, but I've not yet bought an album.

Similarly, The Beta Band. A new find for me (a few years too late, granted!)
